Edtech Cakap Gives Back to Orphans and School Dropouts on Its 4 th Anniversary

Jakarta, May 4, 2023. EdTech Cakap celebrates its fourth anniversary after rebranding from Squline in 2019. Over the past year, Cakap has managed to thrive amidst numerous challenges faced by the technology-based startup. This year, as the Indonesian company classified as Centaur, Cakap would like to reflect its milestones through sharing with others. The series of activities for Cakap’s anniversary includes donations, lasting for one month and coinciding with several national holidays including Eid al-Fitr and National Education Day.

“We express our gratitude by donating to four orphanages in Jakarta and Yogyakarta,” said Fanni Septiani Silalahi, Cakap’s Marketing Partnership Manager, who was responsible for the event. The materials of donations came from Cakap employees, known as the Cakap Squad, and consisted of the learning tools, educational toys, stationeries, and reading books. During these visits, Cakap also provided English learning scholarships for selected school-age children and conducted fun learning English sessions for students in targeted orphanages/foundations.

Four selected orphanages/foundations are Yayasan Yatim Al Abror and Pondok Yatim-Dhuafa both in West Jakarta; Non-Formal School of Yayasan Sahabat Anak, Central Jakarta; and Yayasan Panti Asuhan Atap Langit in Yogyakarta.

The English fun learning materials taught were adapted to the age profile of the children in each visited foundation. “Today we learned about sports and hobbies, it was so much fun, the teaching method was enjoyable because they included games during the session,” said Ayra Latisha Lubna, a student of Yayasan Yatim Al-Abror.

The foundation representatives appreciated what the educational platform like Cakap has done by sharing the knowledge in a fun way. “We believe the knowledge shared, especially in vocabulary and conversation, is beneficial for these children, as English is used globally,” stated Abdul Malik Hamzah, representative of the foundation. Cakap also extended its sharing activities to central Jakarta by visiting the Non-Formal School of Yayasan Sahabat Anak located in Menteng district. This foundation serves as a place for marginalized children to fulfill their rights, including educational guidance such as reading, writing, arithmetic, and foreign language learning. The facilities provided include a reading corner and character development programs. Cakap chose this school because the majority of its students are school dropouts, and it is hoped that the visit and fun learning session can inspire them to continue to learn. In addition to Jakarta, Yogyakarta was chosen as a donation city in line with the availability of Cakap’s development office, the Cakap Innovation Hub located on Jalan Palagan Tentara Pelajar. “The children were very excited about Cakap’s visit, they welcomed it with joy and thoroughly enjoyed the games provided. I hope the visit from the Cakap team will serve as motivation for them to strive for a better future,” stated Aprizal Apriandi Hamid from Yayasan Panti Asuhan Atap Langit Yogyakarta. As the program is held close to National Education Day, this year’s anniversary celebration carries the theme of Transforming Lives Through Education. “This year is different, we believe in the philosophy that sharing knowledge does not diminish anything but rather adds and enriches the perspectives of many. We hope that what the Cakap Squad has accomplished will bring the spirit to grow even better in the years to come,” concluded Tomy Yunus, CEO & Co-Founder of Cakap.
