Edtech Cakap Opens Innovation Hub in Yogyakarta, to Boost Recruitment on Digital Talent

Yogyakarta, August 9, 2022 – Edtech Cakap has just inaugurated its branch office outside Jakarta, better known as the Cakap Innovation Hub, which is located on Jalan Palagan Tentara Pelajar, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. These days we saw many graduates from Jogja campuses working in digital startups from various industries, moreover digital startups are keen to recruit fresh and experienced graduates from campuses in Yogyakarta due to their excellence, especially for technology-based fields of work such as backend-frontend developers, quality assurance, to wordpress and android developers.

Not only that, jobs in the field of education, especially teachers, both language teachers and experts in certain fields, are widely supported by campus graduates in Yogyakarta. Up to date, based on the data from the Higher Education Directorate Ministry of Education, there are 387 thousand students in Yogyakarta, and there are at least 15 study programs related to information technology that are accredited A and B (high accreditation). Cakap accommodates
this high and potential digital talents in Jogja, by opening an innovation center.

Johnny G. Plate, Minister of Communication and Information Technology, through a written statement welcomed the inauguration of the Cakap Innovation Hub in the region. Johnny said that this is in line with the government’s mission to boost and create the nation’s digital talent, as one of the efforts to accelerate national digital transformation. “We appreciate Cakap’s efforts that have provided a place for local talent to develop, especially in the field of technology while contributing to the development of national digital talents,” said Minister Johnny.

This year, the ministry targets 5.5 million people to be equipped with digital literacy, where since 2017 more than 12 million people have participated in the Digital Literacy Program held nationwide. In addition, through the Digital Talent Scholarship, this year at least 200 thousand young people are equipped with technical digital skills such as coding, big data analytics, programming, cybersecurity and other digital skills.

Yohan Limerta, CTO and Co-founder of Cakap, stated that the inauguration of the Innovation Hub Yogyakarta is Cakap’s commitment in accommodating digital talents that are widely found in the region. “Jogja is like a second home, because it has been a place for our developers to develop products since Cakap was founded in 2019. The city is also one of the centers of quality talent in various fields, one of which is potential digital talents from various well-known universities,” said Yohan. In the future, Cakap will continue to expand as one of the efforts to recruit the nation’s best digital talents.

Based on Cakap’s internal data, a number of employees are listed as alumni from leading universities in Jogja. Those are from Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Mercu Buana University Yogyakarta, Sanata Dharma University, and Amikom University. In terms of work experience background, the employees are combinations of fresh graduates and professionals with more than three years of work experience.

The presence of the Innovation Hub is also positively welcomed by the academics. Gia Rizky, representing the Yogyakarta University of Technology (UTY), stated that Cakap Innovation Hub which is very close to campuses in Jogja, is very much in line with the “Tri Dharma Pendidikan Tinggi” or threefold missions of higher education. “The existence of an Innovation Hub like this is very helpful for the world of education, especially for the preparation of the workforce in the terms of soft skills, hard skills, and preparing prospective workers for the career side.” UTY also added that it had previously collaborated with Cakap in order to provide material for seminars or workshops, internships, up to the distribution of its graduates.

Most of Cakap Innovation Hub Yogyakarta employees work on the information technology (IT) section to those who work on the education and curriculum formatting related tasks and even teaching. Cakap Innovation Hub is a branch of Cakap headquarters that will focus on becoming an innovation center that will produce more solutions for the nations. This function will be in line with Cakap’s head office, which is located in Jakarta with a focus on business and perational development.
