Growing in the Education Industry, Cakap’s Revenue Grows 10 Times in Two Years

Jakarta, February 23, 2023. PT Cerdas Digital Nusantara (Cakap) has recorded a positivebusiness performance during the financial year of 2022. The company has recorded a profit three consecutive years, with a positive EBITDA. From 2020 up to 2022, Cakap’s revenue has grown tenfold. Since its founding, Cakap has reached 96 cities (out of a total of 98 cities) across Indonesia and has provided benefits to more than three million students, with the productive age group dominating the student demographic, ranging from 20-39 years old.

Currently, Cakap has three revenue generators: Language, Upskill, and Business. “The Language segment remains the primary generator of revenue, which accounts for 50% of the total revenue, followed by the upskill segments,” stated Jonathan Dharmasoeka, Chief of Business Cakap. In detail, the language segment, especially English, has solidified its leading position, followed by Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, and Bahasa Indonesia for foreigners. Furthermore, services are developed from online learning to blended learning.  

Based on demographic data, Cakap’s students grew up in several secondary cities, such as Bogor, West Java, and Solo, Central Java, and some other cities in Sumatra island, such as Jambi and Lampung. Meanwhile, for non-language courses, these are the top three courses that Cakap students mostly choose: agriculture, marketing, and tourism industry-related learning. Cakap, which has been registered as a Course and Training Institute (LKP) of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Manpower’s Job Training Institute (LPK), has a stable rating of 4.9 on the Google Play Store and has provided an impact of one million learning activities through 487 materials contains 17,000 language lessons to vocational training modules.

At the moment, Cakap has more than 1,800 teachers engaged from all across the country and also several Asia Pacific and European countries. In addition to teachers, Cakap also establishes partnerships with various educational institutions, companies, government agencies, and foundations, which was recorded to be more than 600 partners with various strategic collaborations. Starting from working together to provide courses with organizations like the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) and the National Tourism Association (Asparnas), to forming a partnership with a Timor-Leste Telkomcel provider at the end of the year to offer learning programs from Portuguese to skills outside the language. “To continue providing benefits to our students, Cakap always implements the principle of business sustainability by applying the three principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially for points 4 (Quality education), 8 (Decent work and economic growth), and 10 (Reduced inequalities).
