Having their skills level up, Cakap Alumni Thanked the Kartu Prakerja program

Denni Puspa Purbasari, Executive director of the program’s Executive Management of the Kartu Prakerja Program (center), explains the progress and inspiring stories of the alumni in front of thousands of alumni of the program.

Surabaya, September 16th 2022. Since first rolled out in April 2020, the Kartu Prakerja Program has benefited more than 14 million Indonesians. The majority acknowledged that their skills improved after taking the training or classes included in the Kartu Prakerja Program. It is commonly known that the majority of graduates from formal education do not yet have the skills that are actually needed in the field of work. This gap is the meeting point between the Kartu Prakerja Program and other class provider partners so the program remains consistent in providing benefits for up to two years it has been rolling.

Shindu Abu Nizar (40 years) who is a Kartu Prakerja program participant of batch 36 took a digital application management class in July this year. The Surabaya native took the class with one goal, to complete his knowledge on information technology field (IT), which he had never obtained during his college back in 2009. “When I was studying at a polytechnic back then, this kind of knowledge was not available, so I took a Digital Application Management class to complement my existing skills. I also hope that unlocking this skill can open up other higher opportunities, such as in terms of income/salary,” said the man who works as an IT developer.

Another one is the story of Aprianto (26 years) who feels the direct benefits of the Kartu Prakerja program to his field of work. “I took 2D and 3D animation training because the training can support the development of educational games that I create. After attending the training, I can improve the quality of the game, especially in terms of the game characters itself.” Said the man who had failed to qualify in the initial wave, but was finally accepted in wave 19.

Denni Puspa Purbasari, Executive director of the program’s Executive Management of the Kartu Prakerja Program, stated that she often hears the success stories from the alumni who changed their lives. “I have heard the story that one alumni of the journalistic class, who previously worked as a cleaning staff, had a career in one of national TV stations. She also mastered the skills of journalism and broadcasting. I want to motivate alumni and those who have not joined the Kartu Prakerja Program, there is no success without hard work,” stated Denni who explained the achievements of the Kartu Prakerja Program in an event entitled Semarak Jumpa Kartu Prakerja with thousand of alumni and public attended. To date, the Pre-Employment Card Program has benefited 14.3 million Indonesia.

Cakap EdTech Platform was also present at the event. Cakap has been a partner in providing courses for various upskilling classes in the Kartu Prakerja Program since it was first rolled out. Tomy Yunus, Cakap CEO & Co-Founder, explained that the Kartu Prakerja Program has a vision and mission that are in line with Cakap, especially in leveling up the capacity and potential of the nations. “Starting from 18 courses, it has now grown to 89 courses, ranging from office training, agriculture, information technology, marketing, to food and lifestyle management developed by experts in their fields with various themes of courses at Cakap,” said Tomy.

Some Kartu Prakerja Program classes that have a high interest in Cakap include in the field of hospitality such as housekeeping, receptionist and tour guide. While classes in the digital field also have high demands such as digital marketing, coding to foreign languages, especially English. “We are aware that 63% of formal education graduates do not have the skills that the workforce market is looking for. For that reason, the upskilling class in the Kartu Prakerja Program bridges these needs and gaps. Thus we can expect that the Indonesian workforce is more compatible and ready to compete in the industrial revolution 4.0,” concluded Tomy.
