Faculty of Economics and Business University of Indonesia Collaborates with EdTech Cakap to Produce Open Online Course Materials

Jakarta, October 28 2022 – Over time, teaching and learning process is growing along with the influence of technology. If in the past learning had to be done face-to-face, then nowadays learning can be done anytime and anywhere. Including when people are keen to gain a new skill or knowledge from informal education institutions. Currently, there are many course materials that can be obtained through gadgets. Of the many online courses that are scattered around, public is required to filter which one suits their needs and budget, and it is important to know that the materials should be obtained from reputable and reliable sources.

High demand for various courses to improve skills or knowledge that are sourced directly from experts of the university, has prompted Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are being delivered by universities in Indonesia, including University of Indonesia. MOOCs are an independent learning model and are self-pace, where teaching participants can manage the way and time of learning. The main material in MOOCs is videos, texts and practice questions and their discussions

Particularly for MOOCs from the discipline of economics, the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB UI) collaborates with Edtech Cakap in creating content for its teaching materials. The MOOCs offered at FEB UI for example are Market and Financial Institutions, Islamic Accounting, and Taxation. A total of 112 video materials were produced from the results of the collaboration between UI and Edtech Cakap.

Ledi Trialdi S.E., MPP., representing the Center for Education and Learning in Economics and Business (CELEB) FEB UI, expressed optimism for the collaboration with Edtech Cakap. The majority of course teaching materials are delivered online during the pandemic. However, it is still needed as part of student preparation for participating in lecture sessions and so that students can repeat their learning outside the lecture session. “The collaboration with CAKAP helps us make the video development plan along with the timeline of the work process better,” explained Ledi.

Meanwhile, Tomy Yunus, CEO & Co-Founder Cakap, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the holding of this joint production with MOOCs. “In line with Edtech Cakap’s mission, Elevate People’s Life, the program provides new insights to teachers about learning techniques in the digital era. As a platform that pioneers distance learning, we believe that the blended learning method is a learning innovation that is increasingly relevant to current conditions,” Tomy stated.

The Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) has established a learning system for students in the even semester of 2021. The learning system can be carried out in hybrid learning, both online and face-to-face, but still adheres to strict health protocols. This is aimed at achieving the lecture material, while maintaining the safety of all academics.
