Edtech Cakap Provides Upskill Training to Newbies Workforce, to Avoid Skill Gaps Entering the Industry

Jakarta, November 8, 2022. Seriousness and enthusiasm were seen on the Jakarta Industrial Training Center (BDI Jakarta) students’ faces when they participated in the effective teamwork training delivered by experts from Edtech Cakap. The soft skills material provided is one of a series of training they get before entering the industry professionally. Students are the apparel industry (garments)’s prospective workers from two regions, Tangerang Banten Province and Sukabumi, West Java Province. “I learned effective teamwork and what if there is a conflict because we might experience them when we start our job later and we will also meet many people with different backgrounds. So I think this is very important for freshmen like us,” stated Ayu, a trainee student from Sukabumi, West Java.

Meanwhile, Wira Franzdes Simarmata, an expert from Edtech Cakap, mentioned that this kind of training is absolutely necessary, both for hard and soft skills. “We realize that in any industry, a worker cannot avoid teamwork, so they need to be equipped with proper team communication training, as well as how to resolve conflicts,” said Wira. This is aligned with Cakap’s core business. As an edtech platform, Cakap has provided upskilling training to prospective workers in language and other skills, including soft skills such as communication.

The industrial sector is one of the main pillars of the nation’s economic recovery after being hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. But the challenge is in preparing a new and highly competitive workforce. As the country with the largest economy in the ASEAN region, Indonesia must be on the front line to build the best human resources, one of which is increasing capacity and capability through upskilling.

The Ministry of Industry, through its training center, brought this training in order to improve the competence of human resources who are ready to be employed by industry but also have good competitiveness. “Offline training will make prospective workers feel less awkward when entering the industry. We also hope that soft skills training like this will reduce the gap between the conditions set by the industry and the skills possessed by prospective workers,” stated Arus Gunawan – Head of the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency of the Ministry of Industry (BPSDMI Kemenperin).

Supported by the Kartu Prakerja Program, this training is conducted offline at BDI Jakarta and online from regional industrial training centers (BDI), namely BDI Medan, BDI Padang, BDI Yogyakarta, BDI Surabaya, BDI Denpasar, and BDI Makassar. In total, at least 200 participants attended the training, which aimed to improve industrial workers so that they could “level up” through various training sessions. “For two and a half years, around 514 regencies/cities have participated in Program Kartu Prakerja training. As the Covid-19 pandemic is under control, we hope to increase offline training in the future,” said Kurniasih Suditomo – Director of Partnerships, Communication, and Development of Program Kartu Prakerja.
