The Launching of Cakap Mandarin for Kids: The First Step of Collaboration between Edutech Cakap and AR&Co through the Use of Augmented Reality ISeeAR

Jakarta, February 10th, 2021 – Cakap, an educational startup that develops online interactive learning applications, will implement augmented reality technology via video conference on its new product launch, Mandarin for Kids. This step is taken by Cakap in order to continue making new breakthroughs in providing a more interesting and intuitive learning experience to help students, especially children. In exploring this technology, Cakap has established partnership with one of the leading augmented reality technology companies from Indonesia in Southeast Asia, AR & Co

According to the Bank of China, the number of Southeast Asian students (Indonesian students included) that chose to study abroad in the past few years is steadily over 250,000,1 and based on the latest data from the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, more than 490,000 international students prefer to continue their study in China.

Parents have become increasingly more aware that preparing for future education and the competitiveness of their children from an early age is vital. That is why this Mandarin for Kids course is expected to be the answer for parents who are looking for best access to Mandarin learning for Indonesian children. Cakap Mandarin for Kids itself employs a live tutoring method that connects children with professional Mandarin speakers so that they can improve their Chinese language skills in an effective and engaging manner through online classes. In its launch, Cakap explained that the experience of using augmented reality in learning Mandarin will add to the appeal of the language and make it easier for children to grasp the learning materials, especially in this pandemic era in which immersive learning experiences are very limited.

“Children need realia (real objects) in learning because their abstract concepts have not yet developed. This is utterly important in pictographic languages such as Mandarin. The use of AR technology will bridge children’s learning needs for realia so that learning can be more effective,” said Yoshua Yanottama, Cakap Course Manager.

“AR & Co. I believe that through our collaboration with Cakap, bringing the digital reality technology feature which we call ‘ISeeAR’, will provide solutions to various challenges in online interactions. It will so far even create new forms of interaction that do not yet exist in the real world so that it can foster the enthusiasm for Mandarin learning for children and parents alike in the hope that they continue to be inspired in learning”. According to Juliwina, General Manager of AR & Co.

Michael Budi, CEO of WIR Group added, “This is an exciting new step for us. By working with one of the best edtechs in Indonesia, we hope that the latest technology feature of our AR&Co unit, ‘ISeeAR’, can help parents and children stay motivated to learn at home even amid the prolonged boredom of online learning lately. ”

Margarita Tan, Cakap Chief Creative Officer (CCO) said, “Cakap believes that this collaboration between the edtech industry and this nation’s breakthrough AR technology company will impact greatly on the education industry.”

“The launching of Mandarin for Kids this time is not only to introduce the latest product of Cakap, but it’s also meant to prepare young Indonesians to improve their Mandarin language skills. Because we believe that getting the best educational opportunity doesn’t happen instantly, it must start early so that children are able to understand the importance of applying the correct strategy to obtain these opportunities,” concluded Margarita.
