  • Collaboration between Cakap and Bangkit Program through the English language training aims to strengthen the ability of Indonesian tech talents to enable them to compete globally.
  • Cakap provides English language training through two program lines, namely Active Speaking and Business English classes. Since April 2021, Cakap has empowered 3000 tech talents from all over Indonesia.

Jakarta, 3 August 2021 – English proficiency has become a crucial role in increasing individual competitiveness in today’s professional world. Especially for those pursuing careers in the digital and technology industry, English has become the main language used in everyday terms. Therefore, as a pioneer of the online-based language learning platform, Cakap supported Bangkit 2021, a career readiness program led by Google in collaboration with Gojek, Tokopedia and Traveloka, to provide English language training for Bangkit in this year’s cohort. This aims to improve the competence and ability of Indonesian tech talents in their English proficiency. Bangkit is also one of the programs implemented by Kampus Merdeka initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology.

Technology is one of the sectors in the world that moves at a rapid pace, hence the demand for tech talents with high fluency in English will continue to grow. To prepare Indonesian tech talents, Bangkit uses English as the primary learning language so that Indonesian tech talents are technically prepared and linguistically prepared to compete globally.

Co-Founder and CEO of Cakap, Tomy Yunus, explains that “Technology will be the most crucial sector in the world. It is important for human resources involved in the fieldwork, to possess strong English literacy in their preparation for global competition. Since its inception in April 2021, Cakap and Bangkit have carried out this mission through an English curriculum, specially curated to develop thousands of promising talents, with international-scale capabilities in the field of information and communication technology. We are also proud to state that this initiative is aligned with the government’s goals, as the Bangkit program is one of the programs from Kampus Merdeka initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology. ”

The Bangkit program has three main materials of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) training through software engineering, covering machine learning, mobile development and cloud computing.

The Asia Pacific Education Programs Lead, William Florance, explained that the Bangkit training program had an issue with the language usage. The use of English for ICT-based business training causes various students to have difficulty understanding the material and are reluctant to interact during discussion sessions.

English is an integral part of a career in the technology industry, so we prepare materials and also design programs in English to better familiarize students with various terms in the technology world. Collaborating with Cakap until the final batch really helps students to understand more about the material taught at Bangkit,” he added.

Timotius Haniel, a student of Cakap from Bangkit program said “Here in Cakap, I was given the opportunity to use English as my primary language in class, which in turn boosted up my confidence when speaking in English because our skills are honed within every session”

Cakap enhances the students of Bangkit by providing English language classes on two fronts, Active Speaking, where students are given material that can increase their confidence to speak English actively as well as Business English, a class focusing on guiding the students in using English productive skills for the professional context. The collaboration between Cakap and Bangkit has been running from April 12, 2021 and is expected to come to fruition by the conclusion of July 2021.
